Aguacate y Mezcal

Aguacate y Mezcal

Created by: Junior Merino

“This unique creation is an interesting blend of sweet agave nectar, honey, refreshing Combier, and Mexico’s notorious mezcal for a powerful kick to your taste buds. In addition, Aguacate y Mezcal features AGWA De Bolivia, also known as “the world’s only coca-leaf based liqueur.”

This drink is an homage to my favorite cocktail, the Negroni. The Negroni calls for gin except I use blanco tequila and of course a 1/4 oz of mezcal.

Donaji-Rivera's Julian Cox

The Donaji, which sings with citrus, is sweetened with agave, carries maximum mezcal funkiness and is served in a glass dipped into grasshopper cricket salt, turns out to come from a traditional Oaxacan formula. It’s a thing. And it’s also disarmingly good.

El Angel

El Angel

“The Mexican Government invited Merino to create the country’s very first national cocktail. Merino will be serving it up at next week’s Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival and is proud that every element of ‘El Angel,’ with its tequila and mezcal liquors, liquors, hibiscus flowers and lime juice, is combined for a cocktail that’s decidedly Mexican and entirely The Liquid Chef.”

“With this cocktail, I wanted to bring out the more earthy and herbaceous qualities of the mezcal. Its essentially a 3-2-1 white Negroni using mezcal as the base spirit, the yellow chartreuse and celery bitters supporting the vegetal characteristics of the mezcal, and finally the dolin blanc tying everything together.”

El Embarcadero

El Embarcadero

El Embarcadero at the Bar Downstairs at Andaz 5th Ave.
Walking the line between a Negroni and a margarita, this sipper balances the lightness of Herradura blanco tequila with the deep raisiny notes of Carpano Antica sweet vermouth. Fresh lemon and pineapple juices, along with a grapefruit peel garnish, take advantage of wintry citrus, and a Tobalá mescal float gives the drink its roasty nose.
