Oaxaca is the second poorest state in Mexico. Nowhere is that more felt than the rural villages like San Dionisio Ocotepec, where Wahaka is made. While an entire state's economy might be beyond our reach, we believe we have the responsibility to improve the lives of those we can–our neighbors. Sustainability and community are not just initiatives, it's who we are.
Our mezcal brings happiness to thousands of people around the world. That's what we want to share with our community. That means helping to provide free quality healthcare, delivering toys to impoverished kids, and sponsoring decent uniforms to the high school basketball team. And every person on our team is paid an above market wage so they and their families can thrive.
We’re committed to sustainable agave farming that ensures harvests for generations to come. To honor that commitment, we started the not-for-profit Fundación Agaves Silvestres, that replants wild agave and educates the community and its youth on responsible farming. We also are certified organic by both USDA and Mayacert.
